Semiotics of art.
(objectives)
At the end of the course the student: - possess the critical tools for the semiological definition of the visual text; - will know the functioning mechanisms of the visual arts language (plastic-figurative, narration, mimesis etc.); - has the skills to identify the mechanisms that make up the enunciative structure of visual languages.

( syllabus)
The course presents the theory that human communication through languages consists largely in the activity of narration, that is, in narrative communication. Studying the language, studying literature, studying the figurative and plastic arts means first of all dealing with narratives. To illustrate the "narrative" as a basic modality of human expressive activity, some critical tools will be introduced: - the typology of languages (verbal, visual); - the notion of "semiotics" of visual, figurative and plastic language, developed in the twentieth century by the theories of Meyer Shapiro, and by the semiotics of G.-A. Graimas; - the distinction between "everyday language" (or ordinary) and "descriptive / informative language" (or special) - the cognitive theories of the "narrative mind". As a second step, the enunciative, semantic and argumentative indicators of the narrative will be presented (in verbal and visual languages), which allow to distinguish, even empirically, narrative texts from descriptive / informative texts.

MANIA Patrizia
( syllabus)
Breaking the limits, overturning the aesthetic categories, experimenting with new and unprecedented possibilities of making art and building a thought around it, is an aspect that accompanies the whole story of art designated as contemporary. The history of contemporary art is constantly cadenced by fractures, interruptions, disruptions, transformations, reversals of linguistic, technical, social, hermeneutical, geographical, critical, sensory, material and immaterial boundaries. From the 60s of the last century until today, the field of investigation of the course is the overcoming of limits in contemporary artistic research by interrogating some works, artists and exhibitions considered exemplary. On this background, the course intends to deepen the works, the artists, the exhibition events and the related theoretical and critical debate.
