The course aims to introduce the student to the methods and procedures of textual criticism, a discipline that deals with the study of manuscript traditions and the reconstruction of the form of the text closest to the original.

Part of the course will be devoted to the description of the characteristics of the medieval textual tradition, to the problems it poses to the critical publisher and to the different methods used for the edition of the texts. Furthermore, basic information will be given on the medieval Romance literary tradition and in particular on the lyric tradition and the historical grammar of the Provençal language, in order to introduce students to the poetic text that will be the subject of the critical edition prepared within the course with their cooperation. EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES: At the end of the course students will have acquired theoretical skills on the problems and methods of textual criticism, especially in the context of the literary romance tradition, and linguistic and historical-literary competences in relation to the texts analyzed in class; they will also be able to illustrate the procedures that lead to the preparation of a critical edition starting from the manuscript sources.

STORIA DELL'ARTE MEDIEVALE
(objectives)
The aims of the class are: the deepened knowledge of the technical-material, iconographical and formal perspectives of medieval illuminated manuscript since its origin to the beginning of the printing; the capacity to analyze illumination in relation with the text; knowledges on the catalogue methodology of the manuscript and in particular of the illuminated manuscript; the capacity to use computer tools and the multimedial technique to study history of medieval illumination.

The course is divisible in two modules (each one with 24 hours). The first module “Storia della miniatura dal libro tardo-antico all’avvento della stampa (secc. IV-XV)” offers a basic knowledge on medieval art history and on history of illumination. The detailed module “La tradizione manoscritta e illustrata della Divina Commedia: una riflessione generale e alcuni casi esemplari” deives into the study of the iconographical tradition of Divina Commedia.

Modern Language Education includes studies related to language teaching in both the mother tongue and other spoken languages, with specific attention to the theoretical aspects, also with regard to the problem of translation, and to special languages and with particular reference to the teaching of foreign languages modern and didactic techniques of transmission of linguistic knowledge (from the Declarations of the scientific-disciplinary sectors).
The course of lessons has the title The semantic-lexical dimension in teaching / learning. In the first part the course explores the theoretical basis on which communication is based and the role of the lexicon within it. In the second part we study the model of democratic linguistic education focusing on the most significant aspects.
Although divided into two parts, the course includes a single final exam that takes place in written form with open-ended questions.

TITLE: Translating: from journalism to scientific/academic English, from tourism to audiovisual English.
The course will provide students with the main notions to analyse English textualities for specific communicative purposes. It will also introduce translation theories but mainly it is aimed at practicing translation of some genres and registers, like for example newspaper articiles, scientific/academic essay, infomarketing texts and audiovisuals. The course includes materials and activities to be carried out on the UniTusMoodle platform and an introduction to the main lexicographic reference tools.
