Conoscenza e capacità di comprensione
Le diverse conoscenze ottenute durante l'intero percorso della Laurea magistrale sono strettamente connesse alla globalita delle attivita formative proposte che prevedono una conoscenza approfondita nelle aree fondamentali della biologia ed ecologia marina, che includono anche lo studio dei microrganismi marini e dell'oceanografia biologica.
In particolare, le discipline studiate nel I anno faranno acquisire allo studente il rigore del metodo scientifico sperimentale e le capacita di ragionamento logico deduttivo.
Inoltre, durante il II anno, saranno acquisite conoscenze approfondite in aree piu specialistiche della biologia, per la comprensione del funzionamento degli organismi marini.
Le conoscenze e capacita acquisite consentono agli studenti di elaborare e applicare idee originali, anche in un contesto di ricerca, con specifico riferimento alla biolkogia ed ecologia dell'ambiente marino.
Le conoscenze sono acquisite dagli studenti durante le lezioni in aula, con attivita pratiche in laboratorio e in campo, con visite guidate presso differenti strutture (Centri Studio, Riserve naturali, Musei, Orti botanici, Industrie e altre) con lo scopo specifico di avvicinare meglio gli studenti al contesto lavorativo.
I docenti guideranno gli studenti nello studio proponendo e spiegando in aula gli argomenti piu rilevanti e favorendo i collegamenti interdisciplinari, nell'ottica di una conoscenza e comprensione integrata della biologia ed ecologia degli ambienti marini.
Approfondimenti a carattere seminariale su temi specifici, con esperti esterni o proposti dagli studenti stessi a partire dall'analisi della letteratura internazionale tecnico-scientifica, amplieranno il quadro di conoscenze sviluppato dalla classe in un ambiente collaborativo e dinamico.
Le attivita di laboratorio, serviranno a far conoscere gli strumenti utilizzati per l'analisi dei sistemi biologici al fine di una loro corretta gestione e valorizzazione.
Le visite in esterno condotte con la guida di un docente, serviranno a far confrontare gli studenti con gli esperti di settore al fine di comprendere in una dimensione applicativa le conoscenze acquisite con lo studio.
La verifica del raggiungimento dei risultati di apprendimento sara effettuata attraverso varie modalita tra cui, in genere, esami orali e scritti, prove in itinere, relazioni sulle attivita di laboratorio comprese le visite didattiche, e discussioni di articoli scientifici.
L'insieme delle attivita didattiche teorico-pratiche fornisce allo studente la possibilita di accrescere le proprie conoscenze e di sviluppare la propria capacita di comprensione.
Capacità di applicare conoscenza e comprensione
In base alle conoscenze acquisite durante il percorso di studio i laureati magistrali sapranno tradurre sul piano pratico le conoscenze teoriche avendo acquisito capacita critiche e metodologiche per la risoluzione di specifici problemi biologici.
In particolare, una volta acquisiti il rigore del metodo scientifico sperimentale e le capacita di ragionamento logico-deduttivo, gli studenti potranno affrontare e risolvere qualunque nuovo problema dovesse insorgere inerente la propria professionalita (sviluppando quella che viene detta "problem solving attitude").
Inoltre, tramite attivita pratiche, i laureati avranno assunto el competenze per utilizzare numerose tecniche di laboratorio e di tradurre sul piano applicativo le conoscenze teoriche.
La capacita di applicare conoscenza e comprensione viene acquisita dagli studenti a seguito delle esercitazioni di laboratorio e alle attivita pratiche collegate.
Questi obiettivi possono essere conseguiti mediante lo svolgimento di esercitazioni individuali in cui ogni studente e in grado di verificare le conoscenze acquisite, comprendendone l'applicazione tramite protocolli di laboratorio, sotto la supervisione del docente.
E' previsto l'utilizzo di esercitatori che affiancano i docenti nel caso di numerosita elevata.
Le verifiche delle attivita di laboratorio possono essere attuate oralmente o mediante la valutazione di relazioni scritte sui protocolli sperimentali ed i risultati ottenuti dal singolo studente.
La capacita di applicare le conoscenze acquisite con la frequentazione delle attivita didattiche disciplinari, sara verificata anche durante la preparazione della tesi di laurea sperimentale
Autonomia di giudizio
Riguardo alle conoscenze e alle abilita che danno capacita di riflettere, di integrare le conoscenze e di gestire la complessita dell'ambiente, degli organismi che lo popolano e dei fattori ecologici, i laureati magistrali devono avere acquisito autonomia di giudizio, saper valutare la qualita dei dati ambientali, saper utilizzare gli strumenti basilari per la valutazione della qualita ambientale in ambiente marino-costiero, avere familiarita con le metodologie di pianificazione dello sviluppo sostenibile delle aree marino-costiere; avere familiarita con le tematiche di maggiore attualita nel campo dello sviluppo di nuove tecnologie-sostanze-energie ricavabili dalle risorse marine.
L'autonomia di giudizio sara valutata durante la preparazione della tesi di laurea sperimentale, oltre che nel corso delle attivita di tirocinio ed esercitazioni in laboratorio e sul campo.
Contribuisce ad acquisire autonomia di giudizio anche la valutazione della didattica che lo studente fa per ogni singolo corso.Abilità comunicative
Il laureato magistrale deve avere sviluppato adeguate capacita comunicative, orali e scritte, tali da sapersi rivolgere ad un pubblico sia generico che esperto con proprieta di linguaggio anche in inglese.
Queste capacita sono esercitate nella stesura della prova finale e nella presentazione pubblica con discussione tecnico-scientifica, nelle esperienze di tirocinio previste anche in strutture esterne pubbliche e private, nelle relazioni finali dei vari laboratori e delle esercitazioni interdisciplinari.
Anche gli esami orali di alcuni insegnamenti interdisciplinari abituano gli studenti a sostenere discussioni scientifiche con piu interlocutori di varia estrazione culturale.
La valutazione dei risultati attesi avverra nel corso della prova finale dove sara valutata specificamente la capacita comunicativa, espositiva e di sintesi dello studente sia durante la relazione orale sia dall'elaborato della tesi.Capacità di apprendimento
Tra gli obiettivi formativi da conseguire da parte dei laureati magistrali figurano l'acquisizione del metodo scientifico come strumento di lavoro e la familiarita con la ricerca delle informazioni scientifiche anche nella bibliografia internazionale in lingua inglese.
Entrambe sono indispensabili sia per la continuazione del percorso formativo con il terzo livello, il dottorato di ricerca, sia per lo svolgimento di un?attivita professionale.
Questi obiettivi sono perseguiti durante l?intero percorso formativo e vengono raggiunti e maturati durante l'elaborazione della tesi di laurea.
Gli obiettivi di apprendimento verranno conseguiti e verificati attraverso:
- modalita di insegnamento quali lezioni frontali, esercitazioni di laboratorio, esercitazioni di campo, escursioni e visite guidate e seminari specifici tenuti da esperti; - strumenti didattici di verifica come relazioni finali dei vari laboratori, prove d'esame orali o scritte e verifiche in itinere dello stato di apprendimento (mediante test o prove scritte); - l'elaborato della tesi di laurea; - attivita di tutoraggio durante il percorso formativo.Requisiti di ammissione
Gli studenti che intendono iscriversi al Corso di Laurea in Biologia ed Ecologia Marina devono essere in possesso della Laurea o di altro titolo conseguito all'estero riconosciuto idoneo in base alla normativa vigente.
In particolare, l'accesso e consentito a coloro che sono in possesso di una laurea triennale nelle classi L-13 (o 12) e L-32.
Per coloro che non sono in possesso di una laurea triennale nelle classi L-13 (o 12) e L-32, l'iscrizione al Corso di Laurea Magistrale in Biologia ed Ecologia marina e consentita solo se sono stati acquisiti almeno 40 CFU nei settori disciplinari caratterizzanti il corso di Laurea Magistrale, come specificato nel regolamento didattico del corso.
Per tutti gli studenti l'iscrizione sara comunque consentita solo dopo il superamento di un colloquio di verifica dei requisiti di accesso, con valutazione del curriculum e della preparazione personale da parte della Commissione Didattica del CCS e/o dal CCS.
Tra i requisiti necessari sara richiesta e verificata in sede di colloquio una adeguata conoscenza della lingua inglese.Prova finale
La prova finale prevede la preparazione di un elaborato originale da parte dello studente, la tesi di laurea, sotto la guida di un docente relatore, avente per oggetto un argomento che riguardi l'ambiente marino-costiero.
Il lavoro di tesi deve essere sperimentale e deve portare un contributo originale allo sviluppo delle conoscenze scientifiche nei settori della biologia o dell'ecologia marina o comunque nel campo delle scienze del mare.
Il tema della tesi di laurea dovra essere discusso pubblicamente davanti ad una commissione di laurea.Orientamento in ingresso
Le dottoresse Laura Bertini e Roberta Meschini sono delegate dal Dipartimento al coordinamento delle attivita di orientamento, coadiuvate dagli studenti e dottorandi che usufruiscono di borse per questo tipo di attivita.
Oltre alla consueta presentazione dell' Offerta Formativa presso le scuole e i licei del Viterbese e dell'area costiera della provincia di Roma (Civitavecchia in particolare), il corso di Laurea e stato presentato in manifestazioni ad hoc entro la Regione e in occasione degli Open Day organizzati presso la sede di Civitavecchia.
Sono continuate le attivita di promozione del corso di laurea sul web (fan page dipartimentale per la sede di Civitavecchia su Facebook, canale Youtube dedicato, miglioramento dell'indicizzazione del sito web) e la distribuzione di materiale stampato, preparato con la collaborazione grafica del Laboratorio della Comunicazione (Labcom) di Ateneo, presso ambienti ad elevata frequentazione giovanile.
Il Corso di Laurea viene pubblicizzato dal Presidente del CCS anche tramite interviste radiofoniche (con dirette sui social) su una emittente locale (Civitavecchia) che fa rilevare un buon indice di ascolto.
Il Corso di Studio in breve
Obiettivi del corso di Laurea Magistrale in Biologia ed Ecologia Marina (LM-6) sono: (i) incrementare la preparazione culturale e le conoscenze nel campo della biologia formando una figura professionale di elevata qualifica e specializzazione, il BIOLOGO AMBIENTALE MARINO, capace di affrontare problemi ambientali con un approccio fortemente biologico.
La formazione viene conseguita attraverso un'approfondita preparazione scientifica, anche a livello operativo, nelle discipline che caratterizzano il corso; (ii) fornire agli studenti la possibilita di acquisire strumenti culturali che li rendano capaci di abbracciare tutti i processi ecologici che sono alla base della produzione dei beni e servizi che l'ambiente marino offre alla societa specifici e metodologie di analisi; (iii) formare laureati magistrali con un profilo professionale utile a conoscere, classificare e risolvere le problematiche ambientali con approccio sistemico ed interdisciplinare, privilegiando le competenze nella gestione e conservazione delle risorse biologiche dell'ambiente marino sia costiero sia oceanico.
A tal fine, tutti i laboratori scientifici di cui si avvale il Corso di Studio (CdS) sono in grado di fornire le necessarie competenze poiche le linee di ricerca dei docenti del CdS sono coerenti con il profilo culturale del Corso.
Il Corso di Laurea e organizzato in 2 anni che permettono di conseguire i 120 Crediti Formativi Universitari (CFU) necessari per il conseguimento della laurea.
CONOSCENZE E COMPETENZE
Il laureato magistrale in Biologia ed Ecologia Marina acquisisce conoscenze approfondite nel campo delle discipline biologiche ed ecologiche di base, ma soprattutto di quelle applicate all'ambiente marino.
Inoltre acquisisce: (i) elementi di discipline applicate gestionali utili a contestualizzare adeguatamente le risorse biologiche nel sistema ambientale di riferimento; (ii) metodi di analisi tramite attivita di laboratorio nei diversi settori disciplinari e specificamente nel campo della gestione sostenibile delle risorse dell?ambiente marino; (iii) esperienze professionalizzanti mediante attivita formative esterne, quali tirocini, e interne, quali la preparazione di una tesi a carattere sperimentale.
Al termine del percorso formativo, i laureati avranno acquisito le seguenti competenze:
- rilevamento, classificazione, analisi, ripristino e conservazione delle componenti biotiche di ecosistemi marini, inquadrandole correttamente nel contesto ambientale generale;
- monitoraggio e gestione dei sistemi e processi ambientali con specifico riferimento alle risorse biologiche;
- progettazione e gestione di interventi di valutazione, risanamento, restauro e conservazione dell'ambiente costiero e marino con particolare riferimento alla componente biotica;
- padronanza del metodo scientifico, capacita di analizzare i dati sperimentali, attitudine al lavoro gruppo con responsabilita e autonomia.
SBOCCHI PROFESSIONALI
I laureati della classe potranno svolgere: (i) attivita di ricerca di base e applicata in campo biologico, ecologico ed ambientale in istituti di ricerca pubblici o privati e nelle Universita; (ii) attivita professionali e di progetto in ambiti correlati con le discipline biologiche, negli istituti e nei settori dell'industria, del monitoraggio e conservazione ambientale e della pubblica amministrazione; (iii) attivita libero-professionali ed imprenditoriali nell'ambito delle Scienze della vita in qualita di biologi ed assimilati; (iv) attivita di gestione di laboratori di analisi cliniche, biologiche e microbiologiche, di controllo biologico e di qualita dei prodotti di origine biologica e delle filiere produttive in particolare legati alla pesca ed acquacultura; (v) attivita di promozione e innovazione scientifica e tecnologica in vari settori della biologia, nonche di gestione e progettazione della tutela ambientale.
Il laureato potra altresi avere accesso a diversi corsi di Dottorato di Ricerca e varie scuole di specializzazione.
Il laureato magistrale in Biologia ed Ecologia Marina potra iscriversi (previo superamento del relativo esame di stato) all'Albo per la professione di biologo sezione A, con il titolo professionale di Biologo Senior, per lo svolgimento delle attivita codificate.
Lo studente espliciterà le proprie scelte al momento della presentazione,
tramite il sistema informativo di ateneo, del piano di completamento o del piano di studio individuale,
secondo quanto stabilito dal regolamento didattico del corso di studio.

Experimental Aquaculture.
During the course students will gain basic knowledge about the current state of the aquaculture sector, species of major interest, rearing techniques and methodologies currently used worldwide. At the end of the course, students are expected to have gained:

(objectives)
Educational objectives The objectives of the course are the transmission of an in-depth knowledge about the main activities aimed at protecting marine ecosystems. The course introduces the main features of marine ecosystems, analyzes the impacts on these ecosystems deriving from human activities, providing for each impact the description of the technical, managerial and regulatory tools used to protect the sea.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding At the end of the course, the student will acquire knowledge concerning the main anthropic impacts on marine ecosystems and activities aimed at protecting the sea. The student will be able to understand the multiple effects that human activities imply, in terms of the imbalance of the stability of marine ecosystems, and will know the technical, managerial and regulatory tools aimed at protecting the sea and its resources.
Applied knowledge and understanding The student will be able to orient himself on the technical options that can be applied for the protection of the marine ecosystems and will be able to identify the regulatory instruments, national and supranational, through which the issues concerning the protection of the sea are addressed.
Autonomy of judgment During lectures and exercises, open discussions on the main topics addressed are encouraged, in particular with regard to possible solutions to environmental emergencies affecting the sea. The student will then acquire autonomy of judgment based on the knowledge learned and on the dialectical comparison with colleagues and the teacher.
Communication skills The student will acquire an appropriate technical-scientific language during the lessons and exercises, through the knowledge of the definitions and the main concepts in marine ecology and protection of the marine environment. Communication skills will be verified during the exam.
Ability to learn The student will have to demonstrate to be able to use the concepts learned to hypothesize the possible effects of human activities also in marine ecosystems different from those considered as an example, based on the characteristics of the ecosystem considered.

MONITORAGGIO BIOLOGICO MARINO
(objectives)
The aim of the course is to acquire theoretical-practical cognitive tools for the study and monitoring of marine ecosystems; the acquisition of knowledge and skills, including practical ones, in the context of the study of the marine ecosystem. The course will allow students to learn about the main sampling and monitoring techniques of Mediterranean coastal marine environments, community legislation and institutional monitoring. It will also allow them to carry out simple sampling in practice, subsequently verifying in the laboratory the validity of the techniques carried out in the field. The aim of the course is to build an educational path that, through lectures and practical exercises, allows the student to know the main methods of study and analysis of marine habitats and the main benthic biocoenoses of the Mediterranean. Expected learning outcomes: 1) Knowledge and understanding: develop knowledge and understanding skills relating to the components of marine ecosystems and the legislation that regulates their monitoring; 2) Applied knowledge and understanding: developing an experimental approach to the study of marine ecosystems and the study of their possible alterations; 3) Autonomy of judgment: to be able to evaluate and face with adequate skills, competences and critical sense the study of the different issues concerning the marine, oceanic and coastal environment presented during the course; 4) Communication skills: being able to discuss the main issues addressed during the course with a correct scientific language; 5) Learning skills: to be able to apply the knowledge acquired, during lectures and exercises, to cases that require the integration of the topics covered during the course.

PARASSITOLOGIA MARINA
(objectives)
1) Objective: The course aims to provide the students with the knowledge on general and marine parasitology, on the systematics and ecology of marine parasites, as well as on the ecological and environmental implications related to the study of parasites of marine organisms. The course aims also to furnish the students with knowledge on the modern scientific methodologies to be applied in the research field of marine parasitology, even included those most recently applied in the study of evolutionary aspects of the host-parasite interaction.
2) Knowledge and skills of understandings Results concerning the expected acquired knowledge will mainly concern: biological aspects of marine parasites (systematics, life-cycles, adaptive evolutionary aspects of the endo-ectoparasites, reproductive strategies, host-manipulation); methodological approaches in the study of marine parasites (collection and storing of parasites, integrative taxonomy, molecular systematics, phylogeny, genomics and transcriptomics, statistical analysis of epidemiological data); biodiversity (knowledge and recognition of the major systematic groups of parasites of marine organism, with particular concerns of the Mediterranean Sea). The acquired knowledge of the students will be assessed by written and/or oral and/or practical tests.
3) Applied knowledge and skills of understandings The aspects concerning the application of the knowledge that will be acquired include the ability to: i) to analyze and identify the parasitic fauna of marine organisms; ii) orient the parasitological study in different contexts; iii) critically interpret the scientific contributions/publications in various fields of marine parasitology
4) Autonomy criticism The exercise of critical analysis and the knowledge acquired on fundamental concepts and study's methodologies in parasitology will allow the ability to formulate autonomous personal evaluation.
5) Ability to learn The knowledge acquired and the use of bibliographic sources can allow the application of learning methods to contexts other than those specifically dealing with in the course.

(objectives)
The course aims to provide basic knowledge of the marine environment, with a focus on the Mediterranean basin, through the study of the biodiversity of the main bionomic components. Adaptations to benthic and pelagic environments and their peculiar complex of interspecific relationships are also presented. The aim of the course is to build an educational path that, through lectures and practical experience, allows the student to identify main Mediterranean habitat and biocoenoses and their structuring according to the main environmental variables. Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
• Understand and explain the main processes influencing biological diversity in the marine environment and its patterns of variation over space and time. • Know the systematics of marine organisms and the main adaptations to marine ecosystems. • Knowing how to recognize organisms through the main methods of recognition, using molecular markers and classical taxonomy. • Apply critical reading of scientific literature and independently investigate scientific issues in the marine environment using literature. • Knowing how to formulate sound and evidence based scientific questions.

(objectives)
a) Objectives The aim of the course is to provide students with tools for understanding plant species and communities, their adaptation strategies to the environmental parameters, and dune dynamics. These knowledge are crucial for understanding the conservation status of these ecosystems that are among the most fragile and endangered, monitoring them and defining the most appropriate strategies for protect and recover. The course will supply the basis for further better understanding and studying the autotrophic components of our coasts.
b) Learning outcomes: 1) Knowing the biodiversity of plants of coastal dunes as result of the adaptation to peculiar environmental conditions. 2) Ability to apply knowledge acquired and understanding. Learn how to use acquired skills to interpret data observed or understand any morpho-functional alterations due to variations in environmental parameters. 3) Autonomy of judgment. Ability to formulate hypotheses in response to any problems. 4) Communicative Skills. Students are encouraged to acquire a scientifically correct terminology. 5) Learning Skills. (objectives)
a) FORMATION GOALS. The course will enable students to understand the peculiar morphological, physiological and metabolic characteristics of algae and marine fungi, their role in the marine environment and interactions with other organisms. Furthermore, it will allow to know the basic techniques for their sampling and taxonomical identification. The course will provide a framework for understanding current issues related to algae and marine fungi and their potential applications (eg their importance for other marine organisms, their potential in biotechnology, the harmful algae blooms). The course will provide the necessary insights to understand the ecological peculiarities of algae and marine fungi.
b) LEARNING RESULTS Knowledge and understanding (ability). To get the knowledge regarding the basic principles of biology, physiology and ecology of algae and marine fungi and their potential in biotechnology. Applying knowledge and understanding (Ability to apply knowledge and understanding). To understand the main ecosystem issues concerning algae and marine fungi with particular regard to interactions with theother biotic components including humans. To acquire the basic knowledge regarding the experimental approach to study the fungal and algal communities. Making judgement (Independent judgement). The ability to construe the results obtained by the various studies in phycology and marine micology. The ability to understand the role of the studied organisms in the environment and their influence on the biology of other organisms. Communication skills. Ability to describe scientific topics related to phycology and marine micology both in written and oral forms by a specific scientific/technical language. Learning skills. Ability to use the methods acquired for studied organisms recognition and cultivation. This ability will be developed also trough the active involvement of the students in discussions during the lectures and by laboratory experiences.

Marine microbiology and laboratory
(objectives)
The course will enable students to understand the peculiar morphological, physiological and metabolic characteristics of marine microorganisms (with particular reference to prokaryotes), their role in the marine environment and interactions with other organisms. Furthermore it will allow to know the basic techniques for their sampling and manipulation in the laboratory. The course will provide a framework for understanding current issues related to marine microorganisms and their potential applications (eg the importance of microorganisms for other marine organisms, their potential in biotechnology, the danger of some microorganisms and the necessary countermeasures to cancel potential damages of these). The course will provide the necessary insights to understand the ecological peculiarities of marine microorganisms, in particular those of some extreme marine environments.

Learning results The course will permit the comprehension of the morphological, physiological and metabolic characteristic of marine microorganisms (mainly prokaryotes); their role in marine environments and the interactions with other organisms. The course will permit to understand the principal interactions between marine microorganisms and the environment (with particular attention to some extreme marine environments) in relation with the bio-geochemical cycles. The course will supply a reference framework to comprehend modern aspect related to the marine microbial world and the potential applications of useful microorganisms. Knowledge and understanding ability. To get the knowledge regarding the peculiarities of the marine microbial biology, their metabolism, their role in the marine environment, their interaction with other organisms, and their potential in biotechnology. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding. To understand the issues related to the relationships between marine microorganism and environment (including other organisms). To acquire the knowledge regarding the experimental approach to study the marine microbial world. Independent judgement. The ability to construe the results obtained by the various studies in marine microbiology. The ability to understand the role of the marine microorganisms in the environment and their influence on the biology of other organisms.
Learning ability. Ability to describe scientific topics related to marine microbiology both in written and oral forms by a specific scientific/technical language. Ability to use the methods acquired for microorganism sampling, recognition/identification and cultivation. This ability will be developed also trough the active involvement of the students in discussions during the lectures, by laboratory experiences and field activities.

The main goal of the course is to provide a solid knowledge of the ecological, ethological and evolutionary processes at the basis of the functioning of marine environment; a particular focus is on the mechanisms that shape the distribution, abundance and relationship of the marine organisms with the biotic and abiotic environment. A second goal is to emphasize the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary nature of the issues, in order to stimulate the students to a correct approach to multi-scale and complex disciplines and questions, including the variety of methodologies needed to investigate them.

Applied oceanography and dynamics of ecosystems
(objectives)
With the affirmation in international law of the "Exclusive Economic Zone" concept, and with the adoption of ecological protection areas, Italy has to face the problem of protecting the marine environment from a different perspective, which consider not only the coastal areas but also the offshore zones. In this perspective the continental shelf shall be considered an extension of the national territories where hydrocarbons, materials for the ceramic industry, glass industry, metallurgy are extracted and fishing, mariculture and tourism are practiced. Moreover, there is concentrated a growing maritime traffic and almost all the marine engineering works. The coastal marine domain is characterized on one side by physical and ecological conditions that favor life, and on the other side by the multiple uses of the spaces that generate a high conflict between human activities. The new European strategy of "Blue Growth" also explicitly defines the criteria for the sustainable management of maritime spaces and the monitoring of marine ecosystems through analysis of ecosystem services and an integrated approach that provides in situ observations, forecasting models and remote sensing data. Because the common asset of the sea, an interdisciplinary approach to the marine management in its most general sense is of primary importance, with expertise in meteorology, oceanography, geology and biology.
Expected learning outcomes: 1) Knowledge and understanding: Having developed knowledge and understanding of the components of marine ecosystems, from pelagic to coastal, necessary for the evaluation of possible sources of anthropogenic disturbance and alteration of the marine ecosystem, at different spatial and temporal scales. Having developed the ability to study and analyze the various issues concerning the marine environment with which the student will be able to independently deal with the various activities and interventions in public institutions and in the private field.
2) Applying knowledge and understanding: Experimental approach to the study of marine ecosystems and the study of their possible alterations through the use of the main sampling techniques and analysis methodologies presented during the lectures and carried out during the didactic exercises.
3) Making judgments: To be able to evaluate and deal with the study of the different issues concerning the marine, oceanic and coastal environment presented during the course with adequate skills, competences and a critical sense.
4) Communication skills; Being able to master the main issues addressed during the course with a correct scientific language.
5) Ability to learn (learning skills). To be able to apply the knowledge acquired, during lectures and exercises, to cases that require the integration of the topics covered during the course.

CONSERVAZIONE DELLA BIODIVERSITA' MARINA
(objectives)
Main aims of this course are: (1) to understand the mechanisms underlying bioviersity patterns in the marine environment; (2) to learn about characteristics and consequences of human impact on all levels of marine biodiversity; (3) to know the conservation strategies suitable to preserve and restore marine biodiversity at population, species and ecosystem level.
Knowledge and Understanding The acquired knowledge will concern the main anthropogenic impacts causing the current massive loss of biodiversity in the marine environment, besides the most important management and conservation strategies to counteract this loss. Furthermore, students will learn how the different levels of hierarchical organization of marine biodiversity respond differentially to the same impacts and how this requires to differentiate conservation strategies to be effective. This objective is reflected in the organization of the program which runs through the hierarchical scale of biodiversity organization (genetics, populations, ecosystems), providing for each level both basic scientific knowledge and the examination of numerous case studies. In this way, students will develop the ability to both understand complex phenomena and plan articulated management strategies.
Applied Knowledge and Understanding The knowledge acquired will be applied on the management and conservation strategies to be implemented to protect marine biodiversity. Comprehension skills will be applied by encouraging students to deal with real case studies.
Independent Evaluation The ability to formulate independent evaluations will be exercised thanks to the interdisciplinary and multilevel reasoning required by this discipline and by the analysis of the case studies proposed, that need the merging of complex and heterogeneous data to be understood.
Communication skills These skills will be developed through the exercise of one's own expression (interventions during the lessons) and in the coordination of group activities, especially during numerical exercises.
Ability to learn The many concepts learned and the connections linking them all will stimulate a “learning-by-reasoning” process, essential to fully understand ecological mechanisms.
