1. Silviculture: general concepts, origins and objectives. Ecology and silviculture. Size, habit and growth of trees.
2. The forest site. Forest structure and processes. Silvicultural systems and types of silviculture. Forest management and treatment.
3. The high forest: clearcutting, patch clearcutting, shelterwood cutting. The irregular high forest: selection cutting. Comparisons between forms of treatment and new management criteria for high forests.
4. Intermediate treatments: release operations and thinnings.
5. Coppice management: simple coppice, coppice with standards and compound coppice. Conversion and transformation.
6. Protective forests. Silviculture and fires. Pasture in the forest. Windbreak. Conservation and silviculture. The recreational use of the forest. The cultural values of the forest.
