(syllabus)
Title: Catullus
Programme: the course focuses on the poetry of Catullus: after an introduction devoted to the biography of the Veronese poet and the historical-cultural context of the late republic, his poetry, which plays a central role in the so-called ‘neoteric revolution’ and in the development of Latin poetry, will be examined in depth. The course aims to provide a critical understanding of Catullus’ poetry, framed in the late republican age and in its relations with the Greco-Latin literary tradition. The aim will be pursued through the reading and literary and philological analysis of a wide selection of texts from Catullus’ Liber, whose motives, forms, language and style, models and reception will be examined.
