Approaches to the Governance of Migration in the Euro-Mediterranean Context
(objectives)
The basic goal of the course is to lead the students to understand that there is no stable point from which to observe international systems. In a similar vein, with regard to theoretical devices, schools of thought and academic controversies in IR studies, I bring students to consider that each theory has its own analytical relevance and that the latter is historically embedded in specific academic debates and political contexts that need to be properly addressed, and if needed problematized, in order to understand their scope and rationale. When teaching, I believe that students must have a clear vision of the learning outcomes, including my goals for their education and of what I expect them to achieve, in terms of knowledge and skills, in order to integrate the labour market or to engage in advanced studies. If I expect students to make use of the heuristic tools I provide during the class, I also encourage them to think their own way.
