17131 LINGUE E LETTERATURE DELL'ASIA SUD-ORIENTALE in Modern Languages and Cultures L-11 TIZZANO EUGENIA
(syllabus)
The course aims to provide basic knowledge concerning Chinese literature with supernatural and fantastic elements from ancient times to the present day, focusing on the modern and contemporary period. An analysis of the subordinate genre of the "zhiguai" (records of anomalies) and its evolution up to the contemporary era will allow us to delve into the historical and cultural context that encouraged or discouraged its emergence. Crucial aspects related to literary production in the Chinese language will also be presented. Among these, the dialectic between center and periphery and between high literature and entertainment literature, as well as the relationship with the historiographical genre. Through guided analysis of primary and secondary sources, students will be able to independently delve into the authors and topics covered, and orally present the program’s contents and their own critical reflections on them. Note: Students who did not attend the course are invited to contact the professor at her institutional address.
