COMMODITIES AND CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY
(objectives)
1)The course introduces the flows of international trade, referring to the data analysis by country and by type of product, its definition, its setting in the lagal context of public and private international law. The student learns the normative sources of world trade, the Subjects involved, the birth and development of Globalization. The student is enabled to develop awareness of the export and import trend of goods and services, to learn the functions performed by the most important international Organizations for the evolution, regulation and standardization of world trade. The student also deepens the method of merchandise analysis of trades in relation to their safety , for various types of products and learns the importance of the functions performed by Customs Administrations; at the same time the student is led towards a full understanding of the specific language of the subject. 2) The confirmation of the notions and language referred to in the previous point is highlighted in the acquired ability of the student to begin to be able to read technical analyzes and contractual documentation of the trade sector and applied merceology.The student is also placed in the condition of being passionate about the development of research and insights in the sector of commerce and merceology as well as to understand job prospects in new fields compared to traditional professions. 3) The student is enabled to have their own vision of the global trading system and the need for them to take place on the basis of safety requirements and standards after understanding the political and economic motivations of international trade flows and the subjects that manage them; in this way the student will be able to prepare for an international job in these subjects. 4) The student is also put in a position to increase their expressive and communicative skills, because they will have the knowledge of specific international agreements, contracts, clauses, exact classification of products. 5) The degree of learning can lead the student to have the basis for autonomously deepening the study of the dynamics of international trade up to potentially contributing to the raising of the level of knowledge in his study, social and working environment.

Program 2023/2024:
The Course is scheduled for consecutive stages, with the aim of making the student fully understand. The student must, step by step, learn the main knowledge and consolidate his previous knowledge. The program consists of 4 phases and a day of training (lesson + operational feedback) at the Italian Customs Administration offices: a) Illustration of the updated dynamics of the main international flows of different types of goods, with updated data for the year 2023. Consequences of the Pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian war on world trade. The role played by China, EU, USA and other important trading partners of Italy. Definition of the main institutes of international trade and international trade law, which includes a necessary short historical excursus on the evolution of trade - 12 hours of lessons; b) Sources, Subjects, national and international Institutions of transnational/international trade. Analysis of the economic impact of trade on the world scenario. Evolution of the Globalization of trade and services, with a focus on the different types of goods - 12 hours of lessons c) Structure, functions and purposes of the World Trade Organization. The progressive diffusion of the new “lex mercatoria”. The role of customs administrations in protecting and promoting fair trade. Training at Italian Customs Offices. 7 hours of lessons in the classroom and 5 hours of lessons at ADM Customs Offices - tot. 12 hours of lessons d) Product classification, with a focus on particular product categories; the international Taric classification. Product safety connected to the risk analysis divided by product characteristics, in particular: leather, pharmaceutical and spirits products. 12 hours of lessons
