(syllabus)
At the end of the course, students will have acquired: - knowledge and understanding of the legal philosophical theories relating to the principle of formal and substantial equality in their different articulations; of the relationship between equality and differences based on skin color, sex, ethnicity, migrant status, sexual orientation, age; and on the intersection between two or more of these categories of identity, as well as the problems associated with promoting equality at the social level; - knowledge and understanding of the main critical theories of law, of their development and of the relative link with the rights movements, of the process of inclusion of historically marginalized subjects, of the ways in which this process has led to the revision of the very ideas of equality and fundamental rights, as well as the complex relationship between equality and citizenship; - the ability to apply the knowledge acquired to the analysis and discussion of topical case studies regarding legislative interventions and social policies aimed at promoting equality and the protection of fundamental rights in plural societies
