(syllabus)
The course analyses competition policies in the digital markets in the EU and in Italy. The first part of the course will provide basic tools for market analysis: demand and supply functions, the market clearing price, price floors and ceilings, elasticity, production and cost functions, monopoly, competition and oligopoly. The second part of the course fill focus on competition policy enforcement, i.e. restrictive agreements, abuse of dominant position, merger control as well as the concept of relevant market. Furthermore, the course will analyse on the peculiarities of digital markets and their relevance with respect to the enforcement of competition policies. The discussion of decisions by the European Commission and the Italian Competition Authority in cases involving digital market will conclude the course.
