(syllabus)
The course “English for International Relations and Human rights” will focus on the study of the specialized language employed in this field, through reading exercitations and the analysis of different textual typologies pertaining to this specific domain. The texts will be selected from a corpus of specialized documents – ranging from reports to essays, from treatises to papers – so to provide an overview of the relevant features of the discourse for international relations and human rights: among them, social media, migration, generations of human rights, and socio-cultural and geopolitical events as a global phenomenon. The linguistic analysis (which will include the study of terminology and ESP) of each sample will be the first step of the discussion, aimed at enhancing reading skills and at becoming familiar with the specific lexicon of this field.
