From the story of otherness to the otherness narrated. Dimensions and modalities of travel literature
From Marco Polo and the discovery of the new world to post-apocalyptic dystopia and climate fiction, the phenomenon of travel and its different writing style, between "fiction travel" and "true travel account", has always represented a privileged point of view to know the other and, consequently, themselves, as well as to hypothesize or anticipate the future. The aim of the course is therefore to investigate the centrality of the travel phenomenon in human things, the dynamics and modifications of Italian travel writing, especially in the late Modern Age, to investigate how travel writing can render the complexity of otherness and finally to stretch our gaze on issues of close relevance but already central to Italian fiction as well.
