(syllabus)
The course aims to provide the student with the necessary skills for formal control and description of space through the tools of drawing, at the different scales of representation and in the different descriptive modes that range from freehand drawing to technical drawing (traditional or computer). First of all, the concept of "model" will be introduced, which is the basis of that synthesis that descends from reading the space and which is preliminary to any operation of graphic translation of the complexity of reality. This fundamental geometric model, considered as an interpretative scheme of reality and of prefiguration design, is the starting point of any operation of graphic control of space and must be investigated in its general and scalar characteristics in the light of the formal vocabulary on the basis of which it can be articulated. The different possibilities for the graphic restitution of such a "model" and the fundamental operations projecting and sectioning that structure its graphic translation, both in the case of expressive drawing, from the freehand drawing, as well as in the case of drawing based on the biunivocal relationship that is the basis of Descriptive geometry and its methods (technical and scientific drawing). The methods of representation will be presented in their specificities. Alongside the scientific foundations underlying basis of traditional methods (parallel or central projection; orthogonal projections, dimensioned projections, axonometry, perspective), the privileged field of application and characteristics will be discussed for each method.
