The course aims to provide the student with the basic tools for the archaeometric study of an artifact of archaeological and / or historical and artistic interest. Starting from the examination of case studies and practical laboratory activities, we intend to make the student understand that the scientific analysis (chemical, physical, geophysical ...) of the constituent materials can help to outline the story in a more complete way. and the knowledge of an artefact examined, following only the historical, archaeological and historical-artistic approach.
The course aims to provide the essential knowledge of various classes of materials (pigments, metals, glass, ceramics, stone, construction) and some production technologies. The goal is to understand the peculiarities of the objects of archaeological and historical-artistic interest and their degradation based on the study of the materials used over the centuries starting from ancient civilizations up to contemporary art.
