(objectives)
In general, the course objectives are described as follows, with reference to the Dublin descriptors:
1) knowledge and understanding; will be provided the elements to deepen the knowledge of ecological processes and principles of conservation biology, with presentation the practical cases, in order to promote the understanding of the problems presented;
2) applying knowledge and understanding. the student's resources will be stimulated through the presentation of practical cases, problems to be solved, the preparation of a project, and the application of these resources to the resolution of concrete conservation problems.
3) making judgements. the topics will be presented in a layman's and open manner, without prejudice to participation and the proposition of ideas and hypotheses to those who show creative and original individual paths, even if not in line with the most established trends.
The lessons will be conducted in an attempt to stimulate the proposal of ideas and observations, to be presented in front of course colleagues. In the exposition of the project, effective communication techniques will be encouraged, which will be widely mentioned during the course.
5) Learning skills. Lectures will be conducted in such a way as to facilitate, as the lessons progress, the learning of notions and, especially, general principles of ecology and conservation biology.
The student will have a background with foundations of ecology and conservation biology, will be able to assess threats to ecosystem conservation, with many insights on mountain ecosystems, mainly Apennine. However, the approach is more general, with presentation of case studies and examples from natural, semi-natural and artificial ecosystems. In addition, you will be able to put into writing a conservation project, an impact assessment, and a monitoring program.
