The course will address the outstanding and contradictory aspects of contemporary China reading and analyzing different works of modern and contemporary Chinese literature. Getting inspiration from a crucial macro-theme in China today, we will analyze texts of many contemporary authors: we will translate part of texts, we will deepen into the context, identifying the historical and cultural substrate that allowed the emergence of these literary works. We will develop and deepen the macro theme also through the language of cinema and its declinations, documentary, and video art, we will meet the most important directors from the late twentieth century up to now. We will dwell on the apparent contrasts of today's China, we will investigate the thought, individual sensitivities, and the dominant vision.
