After briefly examining the value of information and representation in the process of globalization of the economy, we will consider how much geographic information has now deeply penetrated society, thanks also to the development of technologies and the evolution of new tools ( GIS, App, Social, Cloud) and how much awareness has grown on the added value given by the geographical dimension to the smart and green economy. The potential of Geographic Information Systems will be explored with particular attention to the relationships between populations and inhabited areas in order to allow knowledge of the organization of space in the light of smart technologies.
