The course intends to analyze the diachronic path through which the ancient Greek-Latin literary text has come to our day, as well as the reasons why sometimes some texts have had a setback in transmission and have not been handed down. For this reason, after introducing the concept of direct and indirect tradition, as well as that of direct papyrus tradition and medieval direct tradition, the course will be divided into three parts. A first part will be dedicated to literary and documentary papyrology. The central part of the course will be dedicated to an intriguing sector of papyrology intertwined with archeology. In the third part of the course, however, the fascinating world of medieval scriptoria will be analyzed, the diffusion and the arrival of the classical text from the Byzantine East in Europe.
