Biological macromolecules. Carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, nucleic acids. The cell. Prokaryotes and eukaryotes. The plant cell. The cell wall. Plastids and chloroplast structure. Vacuole (structure and function). Autotrophic and heterotrophic organisms. Notes on the morphology of the root, the stem, and the leaf. Biodiversity and plant classification. Main morphological, biological, and ecological aspects of: Bacteria, Cyanobacteria, Algae, Fungi, Lichens, Bryophytes, Pteridophytes, Spermatophytes. Sampling methodology of microorganisms and their determination by both cultural and molecular methods (brief notes). Environmental parameters: water availability, light, temperatures, substrate, atmosphere, climate: their influence on biodetriogens and biodegradative processes. Biodegradative processes on different substrates: wood, paper, lytic substrate, glass, metal, photographic material, compund materials (paintings). Biodegradative processes in different environments: confined spaces (archives, museums, churches, catacombs), outdoor environments (urban, rural and coastal), semiconfined environments.
