SCIENZA POLITICA I
(objectives)
The course aims to provide the key concepts of political science, starting from the problem of the definition of matter itself, both in its historical manifestations, and above all because of the theoretical elements that constitute it. In this sense, the main methodological institutes of political science will be analyzed, the themes and research prospects that are at the heart of contemporary politics will be deepened: from parties to pressure groups, from electoral systems to the problems of political representation to the functioning of parliaments; from the transformations of democracy to the new challenges brought to it by populist movements and parties, from totalitarianism to the interactions between economy and politics in the logic of globalization. In this sense, the educational objectives that the course pursues are: - knowledge and understanding in Political science key-items; - applying knowledge and understanding in Political science key-items; - making judgements and critical comprehension of the principal nowadays political phenomena; - implementation of communication skills in political items: - implementation of leering skills.

The Course will be focused on the principal items of Political Science, starting from the problem of defining Political Science itself – both form an historical point of view as well as form the theoretical. Also main methodological acquisition of Political Science, the role of lobbies, parties, political groups in general, electoral systems, the problems of political representation, the morphology of parliaments, the variety of democracies as well as populism and the relations between economy and politics in the global “scenario” will be treated.

The course is proposed to supply to the students the methodological, linguistic and conceptual basic tools of the contemporary political science, with reference to the main areas of study of the disciplinary field and in a comparative perspective. The aim is to form a critical conscience of the student facing the complexity of the political phenomena The first part of the course will cover the analysis of theoretical and methodological concepts of political science with particular reference to political systems, their operation and their organization. The issues in this perspective are: 1) the concept of politics and the nature and evolution of the discipline; 2) the methods of analysis; 3) political participation; 4) groups and movements; 5) political parties and party systems; 6) elections and electoral systems; 7) political representation and parliaments; 8) systems of government; 9) public policies; 10) democratic regimes; 11) non-democratic regimes; 12) the evolution of Italian political and institutional system; 13) Union European and international dimension.
