13157 English Language and Translation I in LINGUE E CULTURE MODERNE (L-11) L-11 TAGLIALATELA ANTONIO
(syllabus)
The course aims to highlight the fundamental concepts of both theory and practice of translation in order to lead students to master the necessary translation tools according to the most common types of text. Emphasis will be placed on the trasnaltion of the main morphosyntactic and grammatical structures of the English language and on the analysis of its main semantic, pragmatic and socio-cultural features which may affect the various translatological choices. The course will stress the importance of using the Italian language correctly in the light of the above choices. Particular attention will also be paid to the contrastive aspects of English-Italian(-English) translation and to the difficulties that Italian speakers usually face in the study of English (e.g. phrasal verbs, idioms, false friends, present perfect etc.). The course will embrace a hands-on approach aiming at the B1 level of the CEFR.
