(objectives)
The main goal of the course is to highlight and analyze the nature and specificities of the political-diplomatic relationships existed between Central-Eastern Europe and Continental Europe. “Case Studies" to bring out the major historiographical problems relating to Central-Eastern Europe will be constituted by the fascinating but tragic history of Poland (or rather, of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth). It. will be analyzed its strategic role of Antemurale Christianitatis and its diplomatic relations with the major European courts (Paris, Vienna and Rome). The themes will be studied and analyzed in the classroom with the help of unpublished or rare texts, essays and archive documents (travel reports, diplomatic documents, handwritten notices related to the geopolitical area of analysis) that will be presented and discussed collectively. The attending student will be invited to take an active part in the course by writing small written theses, power-point presentations and guided discussions on topics established and scheduled by the teacher during the first lessons of the course.
