The aim of the course is to allow students to critically understand the legal system governing international relations, having particular regard to the actors of that legal system, the legal sources and the mechanisms to settle disputes. Besides the knowledge of the structural features of the international legal system, the course deepens the knowledge about the different areas of international law, such as the law of the treaties, the rules on the use of force, international responsibility, relationships between legal systems, the implementation of international law within the Italian legal system, as well as international organization, with particular attention devoted to the UN and the WTO. Students learn how to find the relevant elements to ascertain the current state of international law (legal sources, international practice of States, the relevant case law), to critically evaluate its content and the impact on Italian law.
