Chiara Baldacchini is an Associate Professor of Applied Physics at University of Tuscia (Viterbo, Italy) and Associate Researcher at the Italian National Research Council (CNR). She has a long-standing expertise in the characterization of single-molecule electrical and optical properties of organic and biological materials on surfaces, by means of advanced electronic and optical spectroscopies and microscopies. These competences have been also devoted to the design and characterization of high-sensitive biosensors for the detection of biomarkers. In the last ten years, she opened towards new research perspectives, by translating her competences into the study of wider biological matrices, in connection with food and environmental topics. In particular, she developed new methodologies based on advanced microscopies and spectroscopies, for the quali-quantitative characterization of airborne particulate matter removed by plants from the atmosphere, which can be applied to investigate and disclose the interaction among the particle-surface interactions according to plant species and local pollution sources. Recently, this activity lead her to work in expert European networks devoted to study and improve the impact assessment methodologies and cataloguing of Nature-based Solutions, both in urban and in extra-urban sites, with a particular focus on the climate resilience, air quality mitigation and biodiversity boosting effects of NbS. Thanks to her well-recognized expertise in the field, she is actually co-leader of the Activity 4.5 of the National Biodiversity Future Center, devoted to NbS, and leader of the WP3 of the European Biodiversity Partnership, Biodiversa+, on behalf of the Italian Ministry of University and Research. She published more than 45 among scientific paper on international peer-reviewed journals and book chapters (Scopus H-index: 22). She participated at several national and european research project, also with leading roles.
