STORIA DEL TEATRO E DELLO SPETTACOLO
(objectives)
Lo studente acquisisce una conoscenza dei lineamenti generali della storia del teatro e dello spettacolo, in particolar modo di quello contemporaneo, con una specifica attenzione alle intersezioni tra il suono, la voce e la scena.
Risultati di apprendimento attesi Al termine del corso gli studenti saranno in grado di 1. riconoscere le caratteristiche salienti delle diverse epoche della storia del teatro e dello spettacolo e le trasformazioni dello spazio teatrale 2. analizzare le trasformazioni di concetti quali teatro, rappresentazione, performance, attore, drammaturgia, spettatore 3. saper interpretare la complessità dello spettacolo contemporaneo e dei suoi linguaggi anche in relazione alle altre arti 4. individuare, riconoscere ed analizzare criticamente le principali figure della vocalità e i loro esiti drammaturgici, come declinati dagli artisti cui è dedicato il corso di quest’anno.

Nella sua storia il teatro si è manifestato in forme diverse. Nella prima parte del corso verranno analizzate le differenti maniere in cui esso si è attestato, in riferimento a concetti quali spazio teatrale, rappresentazione, attore, performer, drammaturgia e spettatore. Punto di osservazione privilegiato sarà, in particolar modo, il teatro Novecentesco e contemporaneo, le cui molteplici declinazioni non permettono la costituzione di un univoco modello di riferimento. Adottando quale punto di vista le sperimentazioni del secondo dopoguerra, la seconda parte del corso sarà invece dedicata alle relazioni tra la scena e il suono, in particolar modo il suono della voce, indagate tramite la visione e l’ascolto di documenti audio e video.

I. Introduction to Latin Literature; II. Catullus' Poetry
The course is divided in two parts: the first (16 hours) includes a wide introduction to Latin literature, focused on key elements for the discipline's study (literary genres; models; intertextuality; historical and literary contexts; themes; linguistic and stylistic codes; conservation and loss of texts; survivor); the second (32 hours) will be occupied by a monographic analysis of Catullus' poetry: after an introduction on the Latin poet and on the historical and cultural context of late republic, there will be an in-depth examination of Catullus' poetry, which plays a pivotal role in the 'neoteric revolution'. Some important poems will be read and commented, taking into account themes, forms, language and style, models and influence.

The course is divisible in two modules (each one with 24 hours). The first module “Per una storia dell’arte medievale dal tardo-antico al gotico internazionale (secoli IV-XIV)” offers a basic knowledge of medieval art history. The detailed module offers a deepen knowledge on some specific monumental context in Rome (Santi Cosma e Damiano, Santa Sabina, Santa Prassede, San Clemente, Santi Quattro Coronati, San Giovanni in Laterano e Sancta Sanctorum, Santa Maria in Ara Coeli) and in Viterbo (Santa Maria in Gradi, San Francesco alla Rocca, San Sisto, San Lorenzo) The lections will be supported with exercises, seminars and visits to some monumental places, visits to a library for manuscript conservation (Biblioteca degli Ardenti, Viterbo), to museums (Museo Civico in Viterbo) and to exhibitions.

The general objective of this course is the development of the practical communicative competence of the English language towards a level B1+ (see CEFR) while enhancing students' metalinguistic awareness. Following Dublin’s descriptors: 1) Knowledge and understanding of oral and written English lev. B1+; basic knowledge of the communicative grammar. 2) Knowledge and understanding applied to textualities like: the programme of the course and the exam requirements in both Italian and English; theoretical lectures hold in oral English; reference grammar books in English; instructions for tasks, activities and exercises on the UniTusMoodle course; the evaluation comments from the teacher. 3) Making judgements: capacity to decide among the many semantically equivalent options according to the cultural context and the communicative situation. 4) Communication skills: oral and written production in English lev. B1+; relational abilities with the rest of the group and of working in pairs and teams. 5) Learning skills: transversal competences at a metacognitive and metalinguistic level; information research particularly through on-line resources; digital skills to sustain online learning; self-evaluation.

Title: English in use: a grammar for communication The course includes the following contents to be developed in a 60 hours course (+ 60 hours activities online): 1) a survey of the way students have learnt their English through formal and informal education in order to develop critical awareness about language and language learning process; an introduction to CEFR and its levels descriptors; what is communicative competence (1 week). 2) a survey of different descriptions of the morpho-syntactical level of the English language through consulting different grammar books; a detailed description of communicative/functional grammar (1 week). 3) through a communicative/functional approach a comparative analysis of the main areas of contrast between Italian and English a. verb system, particularly tense and aspect (4 weeks) b. modality (1 week) c. word formation and word order (1 week) d. concept of mass and of defining/non-defining (1 week) 4) presentation of the final exam through numerous sample tests (1 week).
