A]Ecology of running water environments - The river basin as a planning and management unit and hydrology recalls; - role of forests in regulating such/quantitative water cycle; - calls of ecology, - the 4 dimensions of the river environment - ecological role of riparian vegetation*; - basic chemical-physical parameters and their significance (learn to interpret chemical analyses); - quality objectives and operating methods according to the Water Framework Directive (Water Framework Directive 60/2000/EC) and Legislative Decree 152/06 and s.m.i.; - zoocenosis characteristics of water (with notes of autoecology and recognition guide), Biological indicators and quality indices* - the river continuum, ecological corridors, fragmentation and devices for the passage of fish; - references of Landscape Ecology (terminology, use of aerophotos) and IFF (River Function Index)*
B] The Environmental Impact Assessment (V.I.A.) - the Impact Study (S.I.A.) and its three reference frameworks: Programmatic, Design, Environmental. - Summary of procedures according to current legislation.
C] Ecology of lakes, reservoirs and still waters. - Thermal stratification of lakes and mixing; - Eutrophication and remediation techniques - Chemism of water (seasonal evolution)
D] The climate crisis: impacts on freshwater ecosystems - floods, droughts, - thermal impact on running water
E] Biological purification of water discharges - The Imhoff pits, the purification plants with adhesive biomass, and suspended (biological activated sludge): components, ordinary and critical management. - Composition of activated sludge and use of ciliated protozoa as indicators for plant management*. - The disinfection of water. - Environmental toxicology test with Daphnia magna. - Natural waste water purification techniques: surface flow, sub-surface, combined phytodepurators. Fields of application, construction indications and choice of appropriate vegetation. Dimensioning and management criteria.
F] the renaturation of water streams - Nature Restoration Law. (the recent European Regulation providing for the restoration by 2030 of at least 30% of the natural habitats of forests, prairies and wetlands, rivers, lakes and corals) in poor condition, 60% by 2040 and 90% by 2050: criteria for the renaturalization of aquatic environments. Criteria for river and lake regeneration
