Knowledge and understanding: Students will have to demonstrate at the end of the course that they have the ability to understand and know the basics of the Arabic language (Modern Standard Arabic) and the history of the Arab world and Islamic societies, mastering the alphabet, the phonological and morphological fundamentals (nominal and verbal morphology) of the language and acquiring the basic knowledge of the salient moments of the formative phase of the history of the Arab world and Islamic societies, as well as the foundations of the Islamic religion.
Applying knowledge and understanding: Students must be able to deepen their linguistic and cultural knowledge through the practice carried out in the virtual classroom and the autonomous study of bibliographic and multimedia materials provided by the teacher. They will have to be able to apply the theoretical knowledge acquired in class in the practice of listening, writing and speaking of the Arabic language (basic level), as well as in an autonomous reflection on current issues concerning the Arab-Islamic world.
Making judgements: Students will have to prove capability of integrating the acquired knowledge by applying it in the linguistic and cultural complexity of the geographical area taken under consideration, demonstrating that they are able to develop the ability of metalinguistic and historical-religious analysis.
Communication skills: Students will have to develop the ability to communicate concepts and problems by supporting their hypotheses with scientific materials and with logical and structured arguments.
Learning skills: Students will have to acquire the basic communication skills of the Arabic language (listening, writing and speaking) as well as the fundamental historical-cultural knowledge related to the area of ​​study, which are preliminary to a continuation of studies in the subject with a greater degree of autonomy.
