(syllabus)
The course is divided into two modules. Module (A) (5 cfu) is entirely devoted to the history of the German language from the Middle Ages to the present day, supplemented by in-class reading of extracts from key texts for each period. Attending students are required to give a presentation of approximately 15 minutes on an assigned topic, while non-attending students are required to submit a written paper of approximately 8 pages on a topic agreed with the lecturer. Module B (3+2 cfu) comprises the teaching of German language and grammar. Classes consist of in-depth German grammar lectures and exercises. Students will be introduced to the theories and methods of translation, which will be practised in translation exercises. For this module, the examination programme is the same for participating and non-participating students.
