(syllabus)
The first part of the course will be dedicated to the presentation of the key-notions of anthropological theory and ethnographic methodology. We will refer to the concept of culture and its articulations; to the comparative method in ethnography; to the ways of perception and models of knowledge; to the concepts of identity and belonging; the issues of migration and globalization; to the notions of cultural diversity, ethnocentrism and cultural relativism. The second part of the course will present a selection of etnographic monographs, with a particular focus on the ways in which fieldwork and the representations of Others sediment in ethnographic writings.
