The course will be divided into two parts and will have audiovisual production as its predominant component:
A first part of the course will review contemporary narrative and communicative strategies with a focus on the world of storytelling and narration. This first part will also aim to provide students with the basic tools for understanding the syntax of audiovisual languages and the development of critical reading skills of works including, but not limited to, the relation between them and design. The course will review every stage of video production from writing to export. In particular, the fundamental syntactic figures from the shot and countershot to the sequence shot will be analyzed and experimented in the classroom, always taking in mind the historical context in which this language evolved; The theory of photography, the values of the exposure triangle and the use of light will also be analyzed and experimented. The language will be discussed in relation to its use in the contemporary and the most recent forms of storytelling and production for both cinematography and advertising and design.
The second part of the course will focus on the relationship between audiovisual language, product and communication. Analyzing, in detail, through selected examples, the grammar behind the advertising of large companies that is used to promote their products efficiently and effectively. Taking into account the dominant position of the photographic and audiovisual image in social networks and contemporary communication. The workshop will be divided at this stage into practical experiences that aim to let students experience the main tools of shooting, editing software using computers and smartphones.
