I. The Etruscans and the others. Cultural and commercial relations between the Etruscans and the peoples of ancient Italy and Mediterranean area.
II. Children’s burials and childhood archeology: Etruria and the cultures of the Adriatic side
In the first part of the course (30 hours), imported materials and acculturation phenomena found in Etruria between the early Iron Age and the Archaic period will be taken into consideration. In parallel, the course will investigate Etruscan exports in the Mediterranean area and the role of the Etruscans in the social and cultural transformations taking place in the same period in the Italian peninsula. The second part of the course (18 hours) will considerate the phenomenon of the under-representation and different treatment of children in archaeological funerary contexts. The case studies will concern Etruria and the central-Italic cultures of the Adriatic side.
