The course in "Italian Linguistics" introduces basic concepts about the history of the Italian language and analyses texts from early Vulgar up to contemporary ages, focusing on grammatical, syntactic and textual features.
During the second half of the twentieth century and then even more in the first twenty years of the 2000s, the Italian language experienced, and is still experiencing, a period of strong evolution. The range of expressive possibilities has expanded considerably and the relationship between the norm ('correct' Italian) and uses (the many different 'Italians': regional, dialectal, written, spoken, typed, colloquial, slang, popular, specialized...) has become much more complex. To clarify these aspects and therefore introduce a conscious and mature use of the inexhaustible expressive resources of the language, contemporary Italian will be described through the punctual commentary of a selection of significant texts different from each other in cut and basic characteristics: from those 'written' professionally in public situations to those 'spoken' spontaneously in familiar contexts passing through those 'transmitted' and hybrids, typical of today's digital multimedia.
The "Italian Linguistics" course (ssd L-FIL-LET/12; L11 - Modern languages ​​and cultures, 8 credits, 1st year) is divided into two parts.
1. The development of Italian over time and in particular in recent decades. This first part is dedicated to the description of the formation of Italian, also in relation to the dialect, the varieties of Italian and the other cultural languages.
2. Structures, varieties, texts and styles. This second part is dedicated to the analysis of the formal structures (grammatical, syntactic, rhetorical and textual) of contemporary Italian, observed through the commentary on the texts.
