Among the most significant topics, the course will focus on the following issues: - definition and origin of international law; differential characteristics with respect to domestic law; - international subjects and requirements of independence and sovereignty for the international personality; - formation of the international norms and relations between the different sources of international law; - general international law; custom, general principles of law, jus cogens and erga omnes obligations; - codification of international law; - international agreements and the law of the treaties in the Vienna Convention of 1969; in particular the procedure for conclusion, interpretation, reservations, grounds for invalidity and termination, succession of States in treaties; - codification of the law of the sea; airspace and extra-atmospheric space; - international organizations, their functions and acts; - the United Nation Organization; its Charter, bodies and acts; the prohibition of use of force, the collective security system, the peace-keeping and peace-enforcement operations; -the law of armed conflicts; humanitarian law and human rights; - international wrongful acts, causes of justification, responsibility for breaches of international obligations; - peaceful settlement of international disputes; - relations between international law and domestic law; implementation of international law within the Italian legal system.
