(syllabus)
The first part of the course will be dedicated to the presentation of the key-notions of anthropological theory and ethnographic methodology. We will refer to the concept of culture and its articulations; to the comparative method in ethnography; to the ways of perception and models of knowledge; to the concepts of identity and belonging; the issues of migration and globalization; to the notions of cultural diversity, ethnocentrism and cultural relativism. The second part of the course will focus on poetics and politics of ethnography, with particular reference to the wide debate around the ways in which fieldwork and the representations of Others sediment in ethnographic writings.
