Poetry and prose in Italian literature of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries
The course examines the main authors and literary movements of poetry and fiction in the twentieth century and the first twenty years of the twenty-first century. We will focus in particular on the historical avant-gardes, the birth of the modern novel, the forms of realism and fiction between the two wars, the fantastic-surrealist and comic vein, the literature of the war, Neorealism, "The Polytechnic", relationships between literature and the new Italy of reconstruction and well-being, the neo-avant-garde, Group 63, the forms of the Postmodern. The literature of the first two decades of the 21st century will be analyzed with a view to the radical transformation of society in terms of communication and relationship with tradition.

Students will have to demonstrate knowledge of the history of twentieth century literature, to be prepared on FLORIANA CALITTI (edited by), The life of the texts. (vol.3.2. Path of the poetry of the twentieth century + Path of the fiction of the twentieth century) Zanichelli, Bologna 2015. Of the manual, students will have to study the chapters relating to: POETRY: Historical profile of the twentieth century, Path of twentieth century poetry, Futurism, Palazzeschi, Campana, Saba, Ungaretti, Montale, Quasimodo, Penna, Caproni, Group 63, Merini, Magrelli. NARRATIVE: Path of twentieth century prose, Svevo, Pirandello, Tozzi, Calvino, Pasolini, Gadda, Palazzeschi, Moravia, Buzzati, Pavese, Landolfi, Vittorini, P. Levi, Morante, Bassani, Sciascia, Bianciardi, Tondelli.
Students will have to read the novel by Isabella Becherucci, Gli amici di Brusuglio, Perrone publisher, Rome 2021
Students NOT ATTENDING, in addition to the above program, will have to read two novels (one per author) among those by the authors listed below: Italo Svevo, Federigo Tozzi, Italo Calvino, Elsa Morante, Alberto Moravia, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Luciano Bianciardi, Umberto Eco.
