PANASCI' LIVIA
(syllabus)
The program will be divided into two sections: one relating to Arabic language and one to Arab-Islamic culture. Arabic language: students will be provided with the basics of writing (the alphabet) and grammar (concepts of root, article, name, personal pronouns, jumla ismiyya and jumla fi'liyya) of the Arabic language. They will be also provided with some basic notions of Arabic dialectology (diglossia, bilinguism, dialectal areas). The students will deal with short conversations and readings on elementary topics and everyday life. Each lesson will include a practical session of dictation, reading comprehension and conversation. Arab culture: through a historical and religious excursus the students will be provided with a basic knowledge of the Arab-Islamic world and culture. Firstly the life of the Prophet Muḥammad and the first Islamic Caliphate history will be analyzed, then the focus will be on the Koran, the Sunna, the sources of Islamic law, the main obligations and prohibitions, the difference between Sunnism and Shiism.
