The course aims to analyze the role and characteristics of the television medium within the new contemporary media scenario. Still incisive in defining the agenda setting, still an information and consensus tool, the television medium maintains a sense of rituality and community, in continuity with its and our past. At the same time, however, the digital convergence processes have transformed it at the level of production and supply of content, methods of use and consumption, from a transmedial and participatory perspective. Television resists and, changing its skin, adapting itself to the new and diversified needs of contemporary audiences, it still manages to remain somehow central within the media system, with its role still to be played in the field of cultural production and consumption. During the course, some focus lessons will be dedicated to case studies about information and television seriality. Particular attention will be devoted to TV series as the leading product of the contemporary offer.
