Short recall of basic principles on hydrology and hydraulics. Return period concept. Statistical analysis of precipitation in order to define the design rainfall (IDF curves). Hydrograph analysis. Calculation on net rainfall (method of SCS-CN). Advanced rainfall runoff analysis (IUH theory). Description of the main techniques of bioengineering and with low environmental impact in order to restore the riverine ecosystems. The use of common software employed in hydrology and hydraulics: CAD, GIS, hydrological modelling, hydraulic modelling. GIS software: description of ESRI ArcInfo and application of UDIG-JGRASS. Digital Elevation Model and territory representation. DEM properties: slope, elevation, flow direction, flow accumulation, river network extraction, width function. Hydrological and Hydraulic software: description of HEC-RAS and application of FLO-2D.
