1. Materials of interest for cultural heritage: Stone materials. 2. Descriptive mineralogy and physical properties of minerals: morphology, crystalization forms , shine, hardness, flaking. Systematic mineralogy: native elements, sulfides, oxides, hydroxides, carbonates, sulphates, borates, phosphates, silicates. The essential minerals and accessories of magmatic, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. Minerals used as gems and pigments. Industrial minerals, cements and ceramics. 3. The tectonics of terrestrial plates and petrogenetic processes: the rock cycle. 4. Chemical composition of rocks: the major elements, classification and discriminative diagrams. 5. Geometric relationships of magmatic rocks on the ground; volcanism and plutonism. The essential minerals of magmatic rocks. 6. Metamorphic rocks: metamorphism and deformation; types of metamorphism; classification criteria; the main minerals of metamorphic rocks. 7. Sedimentary rocks: Sedimentary rock formation processes. Composition and texture of terrigenous rocks. Composition and texture of carbonate rocks. 8. Ornamental stones, commercial classifications and properties. The ancient marbles. 9. Quarries and Mines: materials picking methodologies. 10. Laser Scanner, survey techniques and data processing.
