Introduction. Chemical-physical and hydrodynamic characteristics of marine water. Morphological and geological features of Mediterranean seabeds. Marine organisms: Plancton; Necton; Benthos. Direct and indirect sampling methods and techniques. Adaptations and behavior of marine organisms. Influence of temperature, salinity, light and pressure. Phytoplankton and primary production. Solar radiation and its ecological significance. Biomass, Production and organic productivity. Coastal and oceanic marine habitats. Soft and hardbottom benthic communities and their characteristics. The benthos zonation and the Mediterranean benthic biocenoses. Mediterranean communication with other seas and the invasion by alien species. Case histories on communities and habitats alterations.
