(syllabus)
a) Training objectives
The essential knowledge of art exhibition's history between XVII and XIX centuries with a discussion on contemporary examples. This art exhibition's history will be related to historical context of museums for a basic knowledge of italian cultural heritage history.
b) Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course students will be able to:
1) present a summary of the main development of the exhibitions and museums histories;
2) recognize and discuss the different typologies of exhibition and their displaying during the centuries;
3) evaluate the different meanings of international terminology about Museology in comparison with italian historical conceptions;
4) interpret and understand similar exhibitions and museums not in the program.
c) Program
The birth of the exhibitions in XVII century; features of the first art exhibitions in Italy, France, Great Britain; Terminology problems related to museum history; historical events of museums from the eighteenth century to present; Temporary exhibitions and "ephemeral museums" (Haskell); Communication in museums; The organization of «tutela» (catalogation and historical research) with conservation and prevention of the deterioration.
