Biology of plant pathogens (bacteria, fungi, Pseudo-fungi, Viruses). Host-pathogen interactions: mode of attack by pathogens and plant defense mechanisms. Susceptibility, resistance, pathogenicity and virulence. Infection process. Epidemiological aspects of main pathogenic agents. Influence of environmental factors on the development and spread of the various diseases. Predictive models of epidemics. Control of the plant diseases (prevention and treatment) by conventional and environmentally friendly techniques. Use of innovative technologies (GIS, GPS, Aspis) in crop protection. Transgenic plants: risks and opportunities. Symptomatological aspects of the most important diseases of cultivated plants.
