Cell wall-derived oligogalacturonides (OGs), formed during pathogen attack attempts or by mechanical injury, not only act as Damage-Associated Molecular Patterns, but also regulate plant developmental processes by antagonizing the action of the hormone auxin. My research has contributed to the knowledge of the OG biology, by further dissecting the OG signalling pathway through the identification of different signalling elements, such as co-receptors (SERKs), MAPKKKs (ANPs), CDPKs (CPK5, CPK6, CP11), ethylene transducer (EIN2), glycine-rich protein (GRP3), that activate Arabidopsis responses to OGs. Moreover, the molecular mechanisms by which OGs antagonize auxin responses have also been elucidated. I also contributed to characterize a LysM receptor that has a role in the growth-defence trade-off and demonstrated that ANPs play a key role in channeling responses towards plant immunity or development by regulating actin cytoskeleton structure and dynamics. In 2016, I joined the Eugenia Russinova’s lab at VIB-UGent PSB center in Gent where I contributed to demonstrate that clathrin-mediated endocytosis is required for immunity activation triggered by another well-known class of endogenous elicitors, Peps. I also contributed in the understanding of the precise means of pathogen entry and colonization of floral tissue in Triticum aestivum, which is crucial to provide effective protection against Fusarium head blight (FHB) caused by Fusarium graminearum, one of the most destructive fungal diseases of wheat worldwide. Since 2011, I have produced one book chapter and 19 papers in peer reviewed journals. BOOK CHAPTER Benedetti,M., Mattei,B., Pontiggia,D., Salvi,G., Savatin,D.V., Ferrari,S.
